My Experience
This is not an entry-level job, and I am not an entry-level candidate. Serving on City Council for the third largest city in the nation and representing this diverse ward is serious work. The issues are complex. I have worked and served every community in this ward as Chief Equity Officer at YWCA Chicago, where I oversaw economic empowerment programs. I have experience working at the highest levels of government, including Chicago City government. Because of this, I know what levers to pull and which people to call to get things done.
My education and experience include:
- BA, University of Chicago (Dean’s List)
- JD, University of California, Berkeley (Associate Editor, California Law Review)
- Chief Engagement Officer, City of Chicago
- Chief Equity Officer, YWCA Metropolitan Chicago
- Counsel, Judiciary Committee, Subcommittee on Immigration & Claims, US House of Representatives
- Associate Under Secretary, US Department of Commerce
- Policy Director, Education & Workforce Committee, US House of Representatives
- Teach For America Corps Member
-
Elected School Board Member
